Bad Godesberg celebrated it's 800th Birthday today!
A bit of history:
Archbishop Dietrich I of Hengebach conducted over the
cornerstone ceremony for the Godesberg Castle in 1210.
The Godesberg castle is at the southern end of the
Cologne plain between the Seven Mountains and the
foothills of the Eifel Mountains. Archbishops and prince
electors of Cologne, as well as their nobility-in-court,
frequented Bad Godesberg for it's relaxing spas. It renewed
it's popularity as a retirement town and spa in the 1900's.
After WWII many political figures located here.
Today, Bad Godesberg is known in the Bonn area as having the
most beautiful settings of parks and friendly walking trails.
Note: The tower is almost 100 feet high.
We walked up to the tower above our home
where there was a variety of activities to see.
There were a few people dressed in period costumes.
Many small kiosks were selling things,
bands were also playing. It was a pleasant
day to walk and enjoy the sights and people.
In Bad Godesberg's main shopping area, below the
tower, all the shops were open and there were more
bands and activities to see and participate in.

We came home and had our own celebration,
playing a few rounds of croquet.
Cody was nervous that his mom was
going to take him out....
Somehow he survived.
We played three rounds.
Jim only lost one of them, no surprise there!
