Jim and I got another item checked off on our
"Germany Bucket List".
We ferried over the Rheine to ride our bikes along the other
side of the Rheine River to the town of Linz, Germany.
It was a 5 1/2 hour, 70 kilo/44 mile ride that was beautiful.
We enjoyed so many sights along the way.
This is an idea from our German friends...
How to charmingly decorate street lights! :-)

We came across this CUTE, and very tiny half-timbered house!
It was built in 1714!
On many houses in Germany we have noticed this sequence
of numbers/letters written in chalk above many German doors.
of numbers/letters written in chalk above many German doors.
We finally figured out what it means!
This is the sequence: 20*C+H+B*11
These markings are written on a persons door whenever
the homeowner contributes money to the local church.
20: for the year 2000
C, H, B: Initials for the three King's who visited Christ.
11: Current year.
A pretty little path with a garden arch by the very tiny, old red home.
A view of the Rheine along our ride.
We saw towers,
castles,
more castles,
church's,
more castles,
and toll towers.
Despite these more modern German homes I still love,
just love how they cover their balconies with flowers!!
A beautiful sight I will truly miss!
We have arrived in Linz!
Notice the cool gate in the background
to enter the town through.
I love the ambiance!
They even think to paint under the roof trim of the house!
A darling German town square with so many cute buildings to see!
It was great to hear the bells ring at the top of this stately building.

More half-timbered homes....
...so German.
We walked to the other end of the village where
the other tower entrance was located.
You can just see the softly painted flowers
on the front of this sweet building.
I am always captivated when I look down a
German cobblestoned street and see so many
Germany timbered buildings all lined up.
One of my favorite buildings in Linz.
A Linz church inside the town square.
On our ride back we saw these colorfully painted beehives.
And they were humming with activity!
Before crossing back on the ferry, to our side of the Rheine,
we biked past the ferry port to get a look at this church with
it's clock tower. This is the church I always see from across
the Rheine on my morning runs, except I only see the clock
tower part. Now I had a chance to see the whole beautiful
building. Our arrival was "perfect timing"since we were
able to see a new bride entering the church to be married.
You can just make her out in front of the entrance.

We also got to hear the bells tolling of the happy occasion.
Such a pretty sight!
Back over the Rheine we go!
Another GREAT DAY in Germany!!!
