November Relief Society Activity~

Tonight was the first Relief Society Activity

that our new Presidency planned.

Our theme was service. We had the sisters

think of a gift of service or a talent they could

share with one another as a gift.

Here is the "Pasture Board" with our little

sheep cards on it. The cards have the gifts

written in them. Everyone picked one after

a story about service was shared.

We mostly liked the talking part of the evening.

Here are quite a few of the sisters in our ward.

We have these activities every other month.

Busy Baker and "Nut Gatherer"~

Well, I needed to make muffins today.

One of the items needed were some nuts.

I didn't want to pay $6.oo for a very small

bag of nuts so I decided to use some of the

walnuts gathered from the backyard.

My tools were a hammer and screwdriver.

Look at the cute heart shapes.

After about 40 minutes of cracking open

several nuts I reaped about 1 cup of nuts.

Might not be worth it next time.

They sure look great on top of these

apple muffins for our R.S. activity tonight!

Rheine Rowers~

I try to make sure I have my camera with me

when I am out in case something interesting

comes along. I got lucky, twice, to see

these rowers on the Rheine River .

The first time I heard them before I saw them!

The man at the left was calling out orders via

a type of speaker. The sound the rowers made

as they synchronised their motion was really cool.

I tried to capture it on video but they move

quicker than you think. I got lucky to see

them again two mornings ago while running,

it was also pouring rain so I didn't get a good

picture or even try to tape them.

Downsides to Fall Leaves~

Well, fall is beautiful but the "aftermath" is

not always fun. Cody was beginning to

dread the weekends because of the

constant raking and disposing of leaves.

We think we've finally come to an end.

We need to keep the gutters clear on the

workhouse, so Cody gladly took care of them!

It was very careful walking up there.

This weekends load was just a drop in a

bucket of what we have had to haul away.

Cody's BIS Sports Activities~

Cody is on the BIS Volleyball team.

They have traveled to The Nederlands,

Dusseldorf and played other local schools.

The team travels to Dresden this coming

weekend to play in the GIST VB tournament.

The CC Team is for students in grades 5th-12th.

This past Saturday the BIS "Football" team

were the champions of the GIST Tournament

in which ten schools participated in.

You are seeing the celebratory dogpile as the

whistle's blew to end the game.

They beat a school from Vienna, 1-0.

We housed two players from the school in London.

I have included two videos.

Bonn Ward House~

This is our Bonn Ward Building.

It is about a 15 minute drive from home.

The main entrance is just behind Cody.

It is pretty humid here. You can see the green

in the bricks by the buildings entrance. The

parking lot is straight back and to the right.

Cody and five other young men-Priests,

Teachers, and Deacons-meet

for their priesthood lessons together.

They also have a combined Sunday School

Class with the Young women.

On Tuesday nights YM/YW meetings start

at 6 p.m. and Seminary starts at 7 p.m.

Seminary is once a week.

everyone is sure not to leave valuables

HARIBO Candy~

We live by the Haribo Factory!

The plant that makes "Gummy Bears."

Kim and I stopped by here to pick up some items

and it was a zoo! It was difficult to get into the

parking lot. Well, I later found out there was a

special event happening. Kim and I knew something

was up by looking out our windows and seeing

several people walking by pulling wagons, trailers

by foot, and cars all loaded with nuts. When we drove

around the block to the store streets were taped off,

and people and cars were everywhere at the shop

near our home. It was the day of the

Great HARIBO Sweet Exchange!

Bad Godesberg collecting Chestnuts and Acorns.

It is a tradition that has taken place each October,

since 1936. Children all over Germany get to trade

in Chestnuts and Acorns for HARIBO Candy.

For 10kg (20 lbs) of Chestnuts or 5 kg (10lbs) of Acorns,

children can receive 1kg (2 lbs.) of HARIBO Candy.

HARIBO stands for Hans Riegel Bonn.

Hans is the producer of the candy and it is

in the city of Bonn. So he used the first two

letters of his first and last name and Bonn.

He is about 70+ years old now.

The first time I came I saw people taking

pictures in the isle. So we take the pictures

because we find it so interesting that it is

such a popular place.

Cody's made another friend....

A couple Saturday's ago Jim wanted to come

to the store to buy candy to take to an office in

Belgium. We came three times hoping the lines

would be more tolerable and finally gave up.

We had to stand in line for 15 minutes!

This is the meat store at the corner of our street.

I make Jim go there. To much fresh meat for me!
